Strengthening Ontario-Fiji relations through diversity and partnerships
Ontario’s Minister for Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Hon. Michael Ford emphasized the importance of diversity in Ontario and highlighted shared history and cultural ties with Fiji during the Fiji North-America Business Mission, Ontario Business Forum yesterday.
"We take immense pride in considering Fiji not only a friend but also a valued partner. Our partnership has spanned decades, and is bolstered by our shared history,” stated Hon. Ford.
Hon. Ford expressed gratitude to the vibrant Fijian community in Ontario, whose contributions have been invaluable to the country’s social, economic, and cultural prosperity.
“The discussions at this forum will strengthen the bonds between Ontario and Fiji, laying the groundwork for lasting relations in the years and decades ahead,” added the Ontario’s Citizenship and Multiculturalism Minister.
Led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, the main objective of the Business Mission was to re-connect and re-engage with Fiji’s sprawling Diaspora across North America.
“Since landing in Toronto two days ago, we can already confirm the potential opportunities that could be unlocked for both Canada and Fiji,” he said.
“To you, our very own diaspora in this room, you are what I like to call our “sleeper agents”. We invite you to contribute to your beloved Fiji, be it with your skillset, knowledge or even investments.”
I know some of you have become successful in your journey here in Canada and all we ask is for you to give back to your country and together Rebuild our Fiji.”
“Another objective for this Business Mission is to promote investments and trade. We have seen growing interests from Canadian-based investors in areas related to tourism, real estate, agriculture and renewable energy,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.
The Fiji delegation has been part of the two-week long Fiji North-America Business Mission, organized by Investment Fiji and the Fiji Trade Commission North America as well as the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications.
