Guangdong Roadshow highlights Fiji to potential investors and traders
Suva, Fiji. A total of 28 businesses from the Guangdong Province in China were part of the 2023 Guangdong Product Roadshow in Fiji, organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee (CCPIT Guangdong).
Investment Fiji was invited to be part of this event together with preferred businesses from selected sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and wholesale to name a few, as per the request of the CCPIT Guangdong.
The event which was held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa in Nadi on December 11, 2023, aimed to foster new opportunities for bilateral business cooperation between Fiji and Guangdong companies.
The 28 businesses from the Guangdong province showcased a diverse range of products, including electronics, food, tonics, lamps, and jewellery.
The selected businesses from Fiji also had the opportunity to explore potential partnerships and sourcing opportunities, furthering bilateral trade ties.
These local businesses also had the opportunity to showcase Fiji made products ready for export such as turmeric, kava, timber, bottled water, canned tuna as well as herbal tonics to name a few.
Guangdong Province has been important in Chinese history as a major international trading center with much foreign influence and presence with China being the second largest GDP in the world.
Investment Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Kamal Chetty said it was exciting to be part of this event, connecting local businesses with potential partners from the Guangdong province.
“We believe Roadshows such as this generate significant interest and lead to new business partnerships that benefit both economies,” he said.
“Guangdong has bilateral ties with Fiji and hope to further strengthen that in the future, building on the opportunities of working together to enhance our infrastructure and services,” he added.
An exhibition was also organised at the event to provide the attendees and business representatives with the opportunity to showcase their own products through complimentary booths.
This initiative aims to highlight and increase Fiji’s export capabilities and attracting potential buyers from Guangdong to further diversify the country's export portfolio.
The 2023 Guangdong Product Roadshow marks a significant step in strengthening economic relations between Fiji and Guangdong Province.
With its diverse range of participating businesses and focus on fostering collaboration, events such as this brings about viable markets for local businesses to explore but also offers overseas companies and potential investors an insight as to what Fiji has to offer which would eventually contribute to the continued growth of their respective economies.
President of the CCPIT Guangdong President ChenXiaofeng, as well as representatives from the Fiji Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry together with Investment Fiji CEO Kamal Chetty were part of the Roadshow.
