Fiji leads Investment and Trade mission to PNG for stronger economic relationship

A 20-member delegation from Fiji, led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, will embark on a trade and investment mission to Papua New Guinea (PNG) from March 24 to March 27, 2025.

Facilitated by Investment Fiji and the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, in partnership with the Investment Promotion Agency PNG, Fiji High Commission in PNG, the mission is aimed at strengthening strategic partnership, economic ties and exploring new business opportunities between the two nations.

Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Kamikamica emphasized the importance of strengthening the economic relationship between Fiji and PNG.

“This mission is a pivotal opportunity for Fiji to tap into the dynamic PNG market. With recent developments, including the opening of Fiji’s High Commission in PNG and the revival of the Fiji-PNG Business Council, we are more committed than ever to strengthening our relationship with PNG,” stated Hon. Kamikamica.

The delegation which includes Government officials, business leaders and representatives from the private sector organizations, will attend business forum, networking events and business to business meetings in Port Moresby.

The four-day mission will focus on key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, ICT, and manufacturing sectors which aims to secure 20 qualified investment and trade opportunities, with a projected combined value of at least FJ$100 million by engaging with key stakeholders in PNG.

It will also focus on developing a roadmap for the potential dual listing of selected companies on the Fiji South Pacific Stock Exchange and the PNG Stock Exchange. In addition, the delegation aims to establish a platform for ongoing bilateral cooperation initiatives, including regular business forums and information sharing.

Investment Fiji Chief Executive Officer Kamal Chetty added that the mission also aims to generate positive coverage of Fiji in PNG by showcasing the country's investment climate, business opportunities, and tourism offerings.

“We recognize the vast opportunities that exist in PNG, and we are committed to exploring ways to enhance our cooperation and trade relations,” said Chetty.

Fiji and PNG share a long-standing relationship, and this mission is expected to further deepen those ties while providing new avenues for collaboration that will benefit both countries in the years ahead.

The delegation will be accompanied by representatives from Investment Fiji, Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, iTaukei Land Trust Board, BSP Life, Biosecurity Authority of Fiji and private sector companies including All Freight Logistics, Ashabhai & Co. Pte Ltd, EnviroTech Solutions Pacific(ESP), Footwear Industries Pte Ltd, Paradise Technologies and Ranviz Fresh Farm Produce.
